Lantana - Miss Huff

Question
Will this variety of Lantana "over-winter" in the Greensboro, NC area??  I have been told it is a perennial.

Answer
Hi Wally,
Thanx for your question.  Miss Huff is rated hardy to Zone 7a/b.  I have seen references from gardeners in Raleigh that indicate the plant has survived winters in that part of North Carolina.  To ensure survival, mulch your plant with several inches of cypress mulch in the fall to protect the roots.  As long as the roots are not frozen, the plant will emerge from the soil (probably late in the spring) once temperatures are consistently warm.  One gardener in SE Pennsylvania (Zone 6a) indicated that her plant came back every year.  I'm going to try it in my Zone 6a garden and see what happens.  Good luck!
Tom
