similar to lambs ear but yellow flowers


Question
can you tell me what it is,my wife volunteers at the herb garden in our city and brought home extra herbs that were being planted,she must have brought home these seeds also,it is everywhere,in the garden in the brick sidewalks it just grows again most of the green leaves are close to ground,with a flower shoot,about 2 ft. high,but yellow cluster flowers,what is it,can it be controlled,thanks don.

Hi Don,
Thanx for your question.  It sounds like verbascum.  Here is a link to Google Images.  You can look through these images.  I think you have verbascum and the wild kind can be very weedy.  You can control it with any weed killer.  There are many types of verbascum and some of the pics don't show it well, but the leaves tend to be very downy, like lamb's ear.  This plant is common all over North America.
