STANHOPEA ORCHID

Question
I have a Stanhopea Orchid which is approx. 10 years old which flowers
prolifically at Christmas time.  Could you please advise me as to how to separate
this plant.  Thank you and regards,  Sue

Answer
Hello Sue,

Separating or dividing a Stanhopea orchid plant isn't too difficult, although after 10 years of growing, yours might be quite a handful to handle.  Now is not the best time to do it, wait until you see new root activity, probably late winter into early spring, to do this job.

In the meantime, enjoy the flowers and the fragrance.  I'm not sure where you have it growing but in an enclosed room, a stanhopea in full bloom can be overpowering.

When you see some new roots growing, write back and I'll try to help with some guidance on dividing it.
