Phalenopsis sprout?

Question
I saw a previous question, and have had many "air roots", however, there is what I'll call a sprout? a slender stalk w/a leaf at the end.  It's not a spike, I've seen those before. Any guess/knowledge what this is? thanks for your reply. su

Answer
Hi Su.  I'm guessing that it is a flower spike and the leaf at the end is the start of a keiki (ie a meristemmatic plant)-- which happens at the nodes or tip of a green flower spike. Flower spikes can, at times, be short and may not flower but can give rise to new plants.  If left alone, this leaf may eventually be accompanied by other leaves and roots. Roots do not have any meristemmatic tissue and, therfore, cannot give rise to leaves.
