orchid blooms

Question
I do not know what type of orchid I have but it is happy, so happy it bloomed
tons of yellow and brown, dancing lady blooms and today the bloom stem
broke off!  I put it in water, will that keep them in bloom for a while?  Will my
orchid bloom again?  this is its third time blooming.  I care for it by keeping it
in indirect sunlight and watering it when it dries out.  I have split it once and
the split plant is blooming too.  Mostly I want to know if future blooming has
been harmed by the premature breakage of the bloom spike. Thank you!

Answer
Dana, the brief answer to your question is no. Breakage of a flower spike results in conservation of the plant's energy for future growth.  By placing the broken flower spike in water you should be able to prolong the life of the remaining flowers.

I must congratulate you on doing a great job with your oncidium orchid-- othersise referred as the dancing lady orchid. Yes, if you grow your plant well, it should bloom every year about the same time.  Normally, I would have some recommendations, but my philosophy is "don't fix it if it isn't broken".  Just keep doing what you are doing
