two 20-yr old outdoor orchid plants

Question
My plants have flourished for years: each giving 6-9 blossoms  more than once during the season.  Now, it has been cold and their leaves are disappearing or turning yellow.  Should I have them split in two as I did before?  They took more than 2 years to bloom the last time I did this. Will they take as long to begin blooming again?  What sort of soil and fertilizer should I use?

Answer
Sandra, thank you for your questions.  So that I can provide you with the best advice, I will need to know what type of orchids they are.  What part of the country do you grow them in? Are they grown in pots?  Do you grow them outside all year?  Is what you are observing, new for these plants (ie never occured before)?
