leaves growing on bloom stem

Question
I have grown phalaenopsis with varying success over the years.  I was recently given a new one and notice that the flowering stem actually has a small leaf growing through the stem (as if the stem is growing through the leaf, although the leaf is very immature).  It is not like the "air" plant that I have seen form off a stem in the past.
Do I cut back to the leaf when the flowers die?  Will this grow later as a stem or a leaf

Answer
Nancy, it sounds if if you have a keiki.  This is a plantlet growing at a node (ie joint) in the old green flower spike. Given enough time, these can grow into fairly lerge plants with multiple leaves and roots-- some even develop flower spike and flower while attached to its parent plant. If, and when, it develops roots, it can be removed from the old flower spike and potted up in a small pot of its own.  Since it's actually a clone of the mother plant, if and when it flowers, the flowers should look like those produced by the mother plant.
