Pruning back a Yucca

Question
We have a Yucca plant that has been growing really well. Too well in fact, it's now spreading across the cieling. There are two stems growing one at 5 foot one was at eight foot. A friend told me to simply cut the taller one back to the height that I wanted it to grow back from. This I did yesterday, but am now regretting it as I did not ask a second opinion and don't want the plant to die we've had it for twenty plus years, any feedback you could give would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Answer
Mark,

Your friend was right. I have one that is 23 years old that has been pruned many times.  The top that you cut off can also be cut to an acceptable height and potted up in a new pot of soil and it will root. Then you will have a plant to give to a friend. My worst mistake the first time I pruned mine was not cutting it off as low as I should have.  I later corrected that.  Good luck with yours.
