picking the dead or dying leaves from outdoor plants

Question
We have a lot of outdoor plants.  Is it a good idea to pick the dead or dying leaves and branches from the plants on a daily basis or should it be done on a wider schedule.  Say once a week.  What is the best for the plants.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

Joe.

Answer
Hi Joe,

My area of expertise is limited to indoor plants. However, in this case, I do know that it makes no difference to the plants as to the frequency of dead leaf and branch removal. In their native habitats, plant do quite nicely without ever having anyone remove dead debris.

Removal of debris is solely a human aesthetic issue. When the dead material detracts from the appearance of the plant, then it should be removed. It really is all up to you and your tolerance level. The plants will do just fine no matter what you do in this regard.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
