LemonTree

Question
the tree is closest to my window facing west, but i also have a window facing to the south too. its a 3 year old from a nursery. it also looks like its trying to grow new leavelets, but they end up dieing after a few days (or up to a week, getting about 1/4" long). would the cold also have something to do with it loosing so much because in the past its been fine this time of year but now it has 3 lemons on it?

hi
Pot size is about 13" in diameter and 12" deep.
Tree's age is 3 years, window faces the west, watered  every 1-2 weeks. other information is its grown inside and is in NE Indiana
My question is, is it normal for a lemon tree to start loosing all of its leaves and about 5 of its branches while it still has fruit that are about 1.5-2" in diameter? or could you tell me were to look to answer this question

Andrew,

Hi! Where at in NE Indiana? I am north of Fort Wayne near Huntertown. Is it 3 years old from a seed or from a nursery plant?  I suspect since I am in the same area that it is not getting enough light to support both fruit and the rest of the tree.  Lemons are sunloving and from a west window  it is not getting enough light even on sunny days. You need supplemental light either from an incandescent fixture close to the tree (6-12 inches) with a grow light bulb or a flourescent fixture about a foot above the tree with either grow light tubes or 1 warm white tube and 1 cool white tube.
That should make it a lot healthier. Good luck.

Answer
Andrew,

I consulted the following websites and as a result I still suspect it needs more light and perhaps more water. You didn't mention fertilizer. It needs citrus or acidic fertilizer to support both fruit and new growth. If you haven't fertilized it in 3 years that could also be a lot of the problem.  I suggest you read through the following sites and if you have more questions please write again. Good luck.
