green prayer plant- how often do they bloom

Question
My boss has a light green prayer plant in a 6-8 inch pot, she has had it for a couple years and no blooms have ever started on it, its in good lighting gets just enough filtered in thru her blinds in office, dont know last time it was repotted but i think pretty recently, no real changes in enviroment, we were just interested in knowing how often they bloom and if something is wrong what we can do to fix it.

Answer
Hi Robyn,

Although prayer plants are not noted for their flowers, they do often flower when they are quite potbound and given good light.

Repotting definitely discourages flowers as the plant puts most of its energy into filling the pot with roots. Repotting may also cause inadvertent root rot.

Depending on the direction of the window, it may be necessary to open the blinds a bit more, as well.

As to frequency of flowering, it really depends on many factors, but even in good circumstances, flowering of indoor prayer plants is sporadic.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
