my first bromeliad

Question
i just got my first bromeliad today. it about 1/2 a foot tall and it is still in the same pot it came in. i just want to know is the best size pot,  what type of soil, how much water, how much light, and any info about it i should know. i don't know what type it is but it has thin leaves and a bright pink flowe and the flower is wide but flat.could you also tell me what type it is if  that is enough info? thanks melissa.

Answer
Melissa,

Why are you repotting it? Professionals grow bromeliads in the right size pot for them to spend their entire life in and it is in the proper soil. The only thing you need to do is water it, sit it in a sunny area and fertilize it once a month.

I believe it is either a Fernseea bocainensis or a
Vriesea erythrodactylon and I am pretty sure it is the Vriesea erythrodactylon. You can google those names and look at the pictures to decide.

If you want it in a decorative container set the pot it is in in abasket or larger ceramic container. Do not repot the bromeliad.

The following site has some good information for you to read: http://www.bromeliad.org.au/news/Ill0106.htm
If you have more questions write again. Good luck.
