Inactive Ficus

Question
Hi Darlene,

I have a braided Ficus Tree that stands about 6' tall.  It is contained in a square pot that is about 12" wide and 16" tall, that narrows slightly towards the bottom.  I water it well, once every two weeks.  It resides in a well lit, NW window.

My concern is that it does absolutley nothing.  It rarely ever drops leaves, and rarely ever developes new leaves.  It has been this way since it intially dropped leaves when I brought it home from the store.

It is reasonably attractive, but could certainly use some new growth.  Can you give any advice?

Thanks

Answer
Bob,

Are the drapes or the blinds open during the day? It sounds like it is not getting enough sun. Ficus loves sun.
It could also stand fertilizing once a month with a water soluable fertilizer such as Miracle Grow or one of the generics. You are doing well that it hasn't dropped more leaves, so fertilizer and sun should trigger growth. Good luck.

Darlene
