Peace lily in water

Question
Hi Will, I just purchased a peace Lily in a vase filled with water halfway. According to the accompanying label, the vase is meant to accomodate a Beta fish and the peace Lily's root is suppose to provide a perfect ecosystem for this fish.
The plants roots are two thirds in the water.

The accompanying leaflet does not contain any information regarding care of the lily. Can you please provide detailed information regarding water changes, sunlight, or any other steps I should take in order for the plant to stay healthy and grow.

Thanks
Naseer

Answer
Hi Naseer,

I can tell you would is good for the peace lily, but I am not a fish expert so I can't say if my advice is appropriate for the Beta fish.

Your peace lily should be kept in water that is not hard, not fluoridated, and not softened. Use distilled or filtered water, if necessary. Change the water every one to two weeks. Add a very tiny amount of fertilizer to the water. Make sure the roots are fully covered by water at all times. Provide lots of bright, but indirect light.

Your peace lily may do fine for up to a year as a rooted cutting in water. After that, it may begin to pale and it will need to be moved to a potting mix for long term survival.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.

If this information has been helpful, please take the time to give me a rating and nomination.
