Answer
Yolanda,

I am assuming that you live in the northern half of the US since you didn't say. It should not be repotted until spring. All houseplants should be repotted between April 15th and June 15th. It should be in a very sunny location in your home such as in front of a south facing window with blinds and drapes open all day so it gets at least 6-8 hours of sun on sunny days.

After you water it you need to empty the drain tray the next day so it is not sitting in stagnant water. You should not water it until it is very dry and light weight, approximately every 10-14 days.

It should not need repotted for at least 3-5 years, in the spring. It should only be moved to a pot 2 inches larger diameter than the old pot, so the next pot you move it to will be a 12 inch pot. Follow these instructions and you should have a healthy plant.
