How to determine light exposure

Question
How do you determine a southern, northern, etc. exposure in a home, refering to how much light a plant needs. Also can you explain how much light comes from each exposure,Is the direction the window faces, determined as far as hours of sunlight?  I have never understood this. Can you give me examples. Once exposure is determined, What if you are lacking the direction the window faces, and cant get the sunlight needed. How can you use  articifical lighting inside the home like  track lighting to mimic the exposure needed. Thank you

Answer
Donna,

You are asking me to write a book. I suggest that you study the following website and then if you have specific questions write again:

http://muextension.missouri.edu/explore/agguides/hort/g06515.htm

That site shoud answer most of your questions. Good luck.
