Chlorophytum

Question
I have had my spider plant for about 2 years now and grew it from a tot plant that i bought. I has now been repotted twice but it has never shown any sign of producing plantlets. Why is this?

Answer
Hi Laura,
Spider plants do not produce plantlets until they are fully mature, which can take about 2 years or so.
Also Spider plants produce their plantlets in the fall when days start getting shorter.
Your spider plant may not have been mature enough to produce plantlets this year. Most likely it will produce plantlets next fall.
If your spider plant gets natural sunlight from a window then it should receive the signal to produce plantlets next fall. If you have the plant under artificial lighting then you will have to decrease the length of time your plant receives light everyday to simulate the natural shortening of daylight that will tell your spider plant that fall has arrived and that it is time to produce plantlets.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
