money tree - Pachira aquatica

Question
Hi, I have had my money tree for over a year.  It had been doing extremely well in the room I kept it in.  A friend, who had a money tree also, which was not doing very well, asked me to put hers in the same light, which I did.  After about a month, my tree starts to loose it's leaves after they turn yellow, just like hers. Also, the new leaves don't seem like they mature, but die.  I got rid of her plant, but is there anything I can do to save mine?  There must be a pest, but I do not see any signs.  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Diane,

Please let me know what you found unclear in my reply and anything else that was lacking. Perhaps I can clarify it so you will feel more satisfied.

Hi Diane,

I know it is tempting to see a causal connection between your friends money tree and your money tree, but I don't think there is one. Yellow leaves that drop off are rarely caused by a pest infestation.

The yellow leaves are usually a reaction to improper light or improper watering. Unless there was a sudden change in the light or temperature of your plant, than that is not the likely cause. However, if you have been keeping the soil a bit too moist or a bit too dry between waterings, then that could cause the gradual decline of the roots and would account for the recent leaf yellowing.

In general, money trees should be located in very bright, but indirect light and never more than about 6 feet from a sunny window. Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry out in between thorough waterings.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
