Anthurium Emerald

Question
Hi Will,
I am in Australia.I have an anthurium emerald I purchased 6 months ago. It sits in the bathroom where it gets adequate light and humidity. It is in the small pot I bought it in. I water it every few days at the moment and it has been getting new leaves and  flowers on it. Please see my photo. These small lower leaves are starting to go yellow. But the larger upper leaves look fine. The stem near the leaf shrivelled and the leaf fell away easily. I have feed the plant ocassionally over the 6 months. What do you think?

Answer
Hi Cathy,

Thanks for the photos of the dead leaves. Unfortunately, that does not help me. A photo of the entire plant would be more useful.

It is quite common for some lower leaves to discolor and die. As long as an equal number of healthy new leaves are coming in on top, then there is usually nothing to worry about.

If there is a problem it is most likely related to light or watering. Anthuriums need lots of bright indirect light all day long with a few hours of direct sun. An east or north windowsill would be best.

Proper watering depends on the pot size and the potting medium. Watering every few days may be a bit too often, but without more details I cannot say for sure.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
