Northwest Landscapes

When creating landscapes it is important to first read and understand what all we see. The region, in which you live, along with a variety of personalities that are seen across an area, should be displayed within the landscape. In today's economic despair and fast pace, everyone should have a lawn oasis in which to come home. When landscaping, it is vital to make the best of the available space you have and to shape your land so that it reflects a regions natural qualities. One of the ways to reflect this is by using plants and landscaping features that are native.

Plants that are native to Northwestern region have evolved for years to suit the weather patterns, climate, and soil conditions of the area. With little use of pesticides, these plants generally require less maintenance to remain healthy. A great landscape that requires little upkeep is what we all desire. Although it seems like a challenge, it may not be very difficult. With the right combination, a yard can be colorful and easy. Perennials, specific to the area, are the best route. If looking for something cheery consider Shasta daisies. These flowers bring tons of charm and even attract butterflies all year long. If
looking for a flower that is less playful, ferns are a classic pick. Evergreen color keeps rich color throughout all weather conditions. Other native plants include primrose, wild ginger, the cardinal flower, and lupine.

A natural garden style is particularly the style that most gardeners opt for in the Northwest. When using trees and shrubs in your garden, there are popular types to consider using. Conifers, Douglas fir, and Ponderosa pine are the best if your garden is in an arid portion of the region. Near the coast, Western hemlock and Western red cedar seem to thrive. If you are working in a smaller area of landscape, you may consider planting a Vine or Japanese maple which are much smaller. Rhododendron is the most popular shrub in the Northwest because of its capability to adjust well in a variety of climates. Blueberry and huckleberry are common, as well as roses which can be found growing everywhere.

Using sustainable materials and materials is popular for landscaping in the Northwest. Earth friendly materials include assets like stone and are used by many local gardeners. Other sustainable practices by landscapers in this area include rock gardens for dry landscape areas, bamboo for building, and using recycled material for climbing plants or water features. Eco-friendly practices are efficient and look wonderfully crafted in your landscape.

In the Northwest, moderate ocean air keeps wintertime temperatures fairly mild and summertime temperatures fairly cool. With these conditions lawns struggle to get enough summer sun or water to thrive. Lawns are also frequently overgrown with moss in this area, leading many homeowners to eliminate their lawn altogether. If lawns are too dry they will endanger the life of all the plants and shrubs, leaving it looking bare and unattractive. Gardens packed with native plants are easier and appear much more attractive.
