Aglaonema(Silver Queen)

Question
Hi   I take care of many of these plants for a local hospital. They have salt like crystals on the stems and are very sticky.  Is this a disease or a characteristic?

Thanks  Sandy

Answer
Hi Sandy,

If the sticky globules are limited to the stems and undersides of the leaves, then they are sap secretions that are harmless and not a cause for concern.

If you are finding amorphous stickiness on the tops of leaves, then that may be honeydew from scale insects. If this is the case, let me know and I will tell you how to treat scale.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions. If you would like to e-mail me some photos, I may be able to provide some additional insights.
