odour absorbing house plants

Question
good morning
i hope i have a straight forward question!
what is the best indoor house plant for absorbing smell etc. my girlfriend has a cat you see... i want to put it near the litter tray, to keep the area moderately fresh smelling without having to spray air freshener. preferably low light as it will be going into a bathroom with no natural light. but if needs light will it be ok to a day or two a week to give it natural light?
thanks for your help. PS i live in Ireland so tropical plants may not suit?
thank you very much for your help.

Answer
Michael,

For starters all houseplants are tropical plants. There are no plants that will survive with light only one or two days a week. All plants need to be in a location bright enough to make a shadow at during daylight hours on sunny days. They don't need direct sun but they need a bright room, not a dark room. The only scented plants are herbs and they require bright light and most are not strongly scented enough to cover litter boxes.

The best solution for you would be frequent cleaning of the litter box by the cat owner and a passive air deodorizer like Air Wick sitting in the room. Good luck to you.
