all of the leaves on my plant have fallen off

Question
Hello, my name is Tasha and I have had my plant now for about 3 years. When I first bought it from Wal-Mart, it was in a small pot and grew beautifully but it was also sitting in a bay window receiving a lot of sunlight, because I live down south. It has only grown to about 1 ft. tall; I grows very slowly. I repotted it into a larger pot, approx a 1 1/2 gallon pot and it was not as close to direct sunlight, it's in a hallway & the leaves have now all fallen off. I then put the plant back outside in direct sunlight and it began to sprout again quickly. But now that I have brought it back inside out of direct sunlight, in the hallway it seems to not be growing anymore. It's been about 2 months and it hasn't grown any more. Do you think I need to put it back outside or is it just that it grows slower inside? I have 1 more question. a piece of the plant broke off a while ago; I planted it back into the pot under the soil, do you think planting the piece under the soil will make it regrow or should I place the piece in water like I have heard works? The website that I have listed has a picture of exactly what my plant looked like before beginning to
re-sprout. Please help me, thank you.

Answer
Tasha,

If there is not enough light where it is sitting for your hand to cast a shadow there is not enough light for your plant to grow. If it does not grow it will eventually die. If you want it indoors it needs to be sitting in front of an east or west window.

When you repot any plant you should only move it to a pot that has a diameter 2-4 inche larger than the diameter of the pot you are taking it out of and no larger than that. If you put it in a larger pot it will die because you will water it for the size of the pot and not the size of the plant. That will rot the roots and kill the plant.

As for your cutting leave it in the soil but move it to a sunnier location and it should root in the soil better than in water. Good luck!
