shade tolerant plants

Question
Hi Will! I think my house could go for some more plants. But all of my sun loving plants have taken up all the space in my bright windowsills. So I was just wondering if you could give me a list or something of indoor tropical plants that could do well with not a lot of sun or some indirect sun?

Answer
Hi Victor,

As a good rule of thumb, even the lowest light plants require enough light that you can read newsprint comfortably in that location at any time of the day. If it is less than that, then even a low light plant will gradually decline.

Here is a list of the best low light plants:

Pothos
Philodendron
Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen)
Dracaena 'Lisa'
Corn Plant
Peace Lily
ZZ Plant
Parlor Palm
Rhapis Palm

I have written an article on Low Light Plants that includes all of these plants that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who sends a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
