Papyrus overgrown for area

Question
I have papyrus in a water feature which has become very large.  Although it is healthy and rapidly enlarging, it no longer fits well in the space it was intended to complement.  Should I trim it back from the outside toward the inside to make it smaller and skinnier?  Where on the stalk should I cut?
Should I try to get the roots in the area I don't want it?

Answer
David,

You will need to literally dig up the plants. Cutting them off will not help for long, they will just grow back. Your other option would be to spray the entire area with Round Up or another brand of product similar to Roundup and kill all of the Papyrus. It is a an invasive plant and will continue to cause you problems. See this website http://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/node/124

I would destroy it in it's entirety and replace it with something less invasive. Talk to a local nursery about what you should use. Good luck!
