prepping area for gardening

Question
I would like to try planting a garden next year and was wondering what the best time to start cultivating the ground?  What are the easiest vegetables to plant and maintain for first time gardeners? What are the best ways to not use pesticides?

Answer
Dear Frank,
A simple overview as you get started.  I always till in the fall and mulch for the winter.  It helps against weeds in the spring.  Basic veges for your growing zone are recommended for easy veges to grow and maintain.  I suggest green beans and tomatoes if at all possible.  To avoid pesticides I recommend diatomaceous earth.  It's an easy google search and very effective.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
