Blue Italian Cypress - Questions

Question
I purchased 2 blue italian cypress trees that are about 9 feet tall.

1. How long can I leave them in their containers?
2. They are currently about 12-15 inches wide. How far should I plant them apart in order to have little to no space between them when fully grown?
3. How many feet from a fence should I plant them?

Answer
1. I would not leaves them in these small container for long--the problem will be making sure the soil in the pot does not dry too much or get too much water. If the pots have holes in the bottom the too much water should not be a problem. It is best to go ahead and plant them but they can be held a month or so without a problem.

2. At maturity they are 4 to 6 ft. wide. So I would plant them 2 -3 feet apart and they should touch.
3. The same goes for the fence. I would plant 4 feet from the fence and this will leave about a foot or so.

When you dig the new hole make it twice the width of the pot and as deep and fill with good top soil or potting soil. Mulch around the trees with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunk. Water once a week with 1 inch of water- place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. I would do this through the summer months.
