Winterizing Venus Fly Traps

Question
When you say you should cover your plants in mulch, should you cover them
over the top?  I've filled my pot to the top with the peat moss/perlite mixture
so I couldn't put 6-8 inches of pine straw mulch on top of that -- it would
blow away with the wind.

Please advise.

Answer
Hi Steve,

Yes, when you apply mulch, you apply if over the plants.  To prevent the pine straw from blowing away, cover the mulch with burlap fabric and secure it with large stones or bricks.  Make sure to use brand new burlap fabric.  If you use used ones, like used potato sacks, you increase the risk for fungal infections.  With brand new fabric, there likely isn't any fungal spores to worry about.

Good growing!
