brown spots on pitchers

Question
Hi agan my Judith Hindle is doing great. I read your care sheets on Sarracenia. And this is the first time I ever  Successfully grown a carnivorous plant. They have been caching lots of bugs, but one pitcher as two brown spots on the lower portion of the pitcher, and it looks like its spreading what do I do.

Answer
Hi Yaredis,

As pitchers age this isn't unusual.  The most common cause of this is the plant catching lots of bugs and getting "indigestion."  It looks unsightly, but doesn't harm the plant on the whole.  If the top of the leaf dies, just cut the top off and leave the bottom.  The plant can finish extracting nutrients from the bugs that way.

Good Growing!
