Pet Problems

Question
How do you keep your dog from damaging your Sarracenia? Just recently my dog has developed an interest in uprooting and eating entire pitcher plants... rhizome, roots, and all. I can't get him to stop. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Brian,

This may seem like a no-brainer, but you need to find a location for your plant that your dog can't get too.  Your dog is probably attracted to the smell of decomposing insects.  I definitely had this problem many years ago.  What I did was start growing my outdoor plants in rigid children's swimming pools.  With those I was able to wrap rabbit fencing around the pool.  This kept both dogs, deer and little kids away from the plants.

Good Growing!
