Nepenthes x miranda fertilizer

Question
hello,
I recently purchased a huge Nepenthes x miranda and the place I got it from gave me a gallon bottle of liquid fertilizer mixed with rain water. The instructions they gave me say to use 1/2 cup of this fertilizer on the plant every month. The fertilizer is 20-20-20, isnt this way too strong for this plant? Everything I have read says dont use any fertilizer on Nepenthes.

Answer
Hi Sean,

You can use fertilizers on Nepenthes, BUT you have to use them correctly.  If you apply them improperly, you will definitely do more harm than good.  Without knowing how the nitrogen source and the concentration of the solution, you're better off using the fertilizer on non-carnivorous plants.  Your Nepenthes will grow fine without it.  You can also drop a few bugs in the pitchers, which will give your plant a nutritional boost.

For details about how to use fertilizers on Nepenthes, watch Volume 3 of the Grow Carnivorous Plants DVD series:

Good growing!
