Darlingtonia californica seed

Question
I would like to know how you store you Darlingtonia californica seed.

Thanks,Jake

Answer
To help keep Darlingtonia californica seed as fresh as possible until you wish to sow it, just store it in a paper envelope, inside a plastic bag (like a ziplock bag), inside the refrigerator.

When you want to sow Darlingtonia, stratification helps. This cold and wet period simulates a winter for plants such as Darlingtonia that produce their seed in the fall for germination the following spring.

To stratify Darlingtonia seed, just sprinkle some seed onto a paper towel, then moisten the towel with distilled water (or reverse-osmosis water) and fold it several times with the seed inside. Put that into a plastic ziplock bag and put it in the refrigerator (not the freezer) for about 4-5 weeks. Then the seed will be ready to sow and germinate.
