Venus Flytraps blooming and transplanting

Question
I have several flytraps which are currently sending up bloom stalks.... Would it hurt to transplant them into larger containers now?  or should I wait until after they make seeds?

Thanks again guys!!!

Dex

Answer
Whether to transplant them now or wait depends on your goals.  If you need to transplant the plants because the soil is unhealthy, then you're better off doing so now than waiting.  If you are interested in getting seeds, then you should wait.

It's best not to transplant flytraps during the growing season.  Sometimes root disturbances will set them back.  The plant won't die.  It'll just slow down and produce fewer traps until it repairs the root damage.  So the ideal time to transplant them is in early spring when the plant is just emerging from dormancy.

With that said, if you are very careful in not disturbing the roots too much and manage to keep the soil around the roots intact, you can have the best of both worlds, a transplanted flytrap that will produce seeds and lots of traps.  You just need to be very gentle and patient during this process.  In fact, we demonstrate it in Volume 1 of the Grow Carnivorous Plants DVD series.

Good growing!
