Nepenthes x Ventrata

Question
Nepenthes x Ventrata
Nepenthes x Ventrata
Hi

I have a N.x Ventrata what is about 2feet high growing in the greenhouse with 4 layers off bubble wrap on the roof for shading,But the top of the nepenthes has only small leaves and pitchers about 3inch long and getting smaller the leaves are light green and the pitchers are all red growing in live moss and perlite that gets full sun from 10am till 6pm.

Why are my leaves and pitcher getting smaller and the ones you get from a garden centre are bigger 10 to 13inch and has greener leaves?

Answer
Hi Jonathan,

Thank-you for the photo.  That really helped me to understand.  Your plant looks nice and healthy.  What it's doing is starting to produce upper pitchers.  Upper pitchers tend to be smaller than lower pitchers.  To keep it producing the larger lower pitchers you will need to cut it back.  All of this is just the response to the brighter light higher up, and is exactly what the plant would do in nature as the vine climbs higher up in the tree canopy.  There's really no need to cut it back.  It's more personal preference.

Good Growing!
