Soil for Nepenthes

Question
Hallo again,
I m living in Austria and here is very difficult for me to find Long fiber sphagnum moss. I only found in amazon.com for 16 pounds only but the shipping charges are 40 pounds extra. I have ordered sphagnum moss from Germany. Is it the same? Is it not the right one for Nepenthes? Should I order the long fiber sphagnum moss???

Thank You!!!

Answer
Hi Sed,

Any type of sphagnum moss is fine as long as it is actually sphagnum.  Most of it comes from Chile or New Zealand.  You may have some local producers, however.  If you're having a hard time finding sphagnum you might check E-bay, or try a different soil mix.  You can use peat moss mixes with various bark and rock ingredients.  Nepenthes are tolerant of a range of soil mixes as long as it drains quickly and is low in nutrients.  This website would be a good one to explore on this issue:  http://lhnn.proboards.com/index.cgi?

Good Growing!
