raising the humidity in a fish bowl terrarium

Question
mirabilisx rafflesiana
mirabilisx rafflesiana
Allexperts,

Hope you are having a wonderful holiday season.  I have Mirabilis  x rafflesiana in a fish bowl over a cfl light.  I got the plant from Sarracenia Northwest.  I use distilled water in which I spray the water in a spray bottle.  I was wondering if there was a way to rasie the humidity to make the plant more happy?  I have photo attached to this email.  Let me know if there is anything else you need in terms of information.  Thank you for help.

Sincerely,

Weylin

Answer
Hi Weylin,

Try using a pea gravel bed below the plant.  Keep a little distilled water in the gravel, and it should help raise the humidity fairly well.  About an inch of gravel should be just fine.  Find yourself and inexpensive electronic hygrometer too.  You can often find these where they sell wireless thermometers in garden centers.  If you can see what the actual humidity is, you won't be guessing.  If you get up to 70%, you're fine.

Good Growing!
