nepenthenes

Question
I have a nepenthenes that has been growing for about 5 years in a moss/charcoal/bark misxture.  the plant grows in an east facing window with some adelae as well.  over the past few years the vines have gotten very long but only the ends are green, and theres lil sap spots along the green part...they are small clear sticky lil spots along the vine and some on the leaves...is this normal or do i have some sort of infestation?  i'd send a pic but i could not get the camera to focus clearly on them.  thanks for the help

Answer
Those sticky spots are nectar secretions.  The plant produces nectar to lure insects into the pitcher.  Generally, when you see those nectar droplets all over your plant, that means your plant is happy!  This is perfectly normal when the lighting, temperature and humidity are at the right levels.

If your plant is at least 5 years old and it has long vines, it may be time to prune it back and take cuttings.  You can watch the full demonstration on how to do this in Grow Carnivorous Plants, Volume 3.
