Hi Eric,

I've used this light for growing a couple different types of carnivorous plants, and have found they work well.  It comes with a 23 watt CFL, but I recommend using a 32 watt bulb, which is what the unit originally had when they first started selling them.  Here's an example:  http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-Agrosun-32W-Compact-Fluorescent/dp/B00A2XBLA8/re
