pinching petunias

Question
What do you mean by "pinching" petunias in a hanging pot?

We've already made the mistake of fertilizing and perhaps over watering.  One of the two pots is beginning to look anemic.  They were beautiful a week ago.  I want to know if I should cut off old buds with scissors, or literally pinch the old buds out, or trim off the whole stem.

Thanks so much!

Mike

Answer
Pots too often hang from the ceilings of covered porches, where there is never enough strong Sunlight to meet the footcandle demands of these pushy Petunia plants.

Cut stems back severely, down to the first set of leaves if needed.  Place in Sun, water and let Nature take its course.  Remember, these plants need DIRECT SUN for almost the ENTIRE day.

Thanks for writing,
