Answer
Hi Elisa:

Hydrangea is not something that I grow so I don't know that much about them. It is not an annual flower, so you might get more info from a Perennial expert.

Having said that I can think of a couple of possible reasons for your problem.

The simplest is the leaves are burnt from the sun on wet leaves. Do you water in the heat of the day when the sun is on the plant, so this could happen?

That is probably not the cause but I had to ask the question. What I think is most likely is that this is some kind of fungal disease. It may be one that is particular to Hydrangea. Armed with this info go back into the site and go to perennials. Ask the long island gardener. He is quite knowledgeable about perennials, and I'm sure he can help you.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.             Myrna

I found this and thought of you. Do you think this might be it by the description or did you find out what it was already. Either way as long as you got help. Myrna

?Leaf spot (fungus)
Symptoms: Small, dark brown spots appear first on
lower leaves. Leaves may become blighted, shrivel, and die.
Dead leaves may hang on the plant.
Control: Avoid wetting foliage. Spray plants at first indication
of disease using captan, chlorothalonil, ferbam, maneb,
mancozeb, ziram, or mancozeb + thiophanate-
