Honeysuckle pests and disease

Question
My honeysuckle is about 5 yrs old and this is the first year I have noticed tiny black insects on the flower buds and then a white powdery substance has now affected the entire plant.  I live in northern NJ (zone 6) and this has never happened to this plant before.
should I be concerned and should I treat it somehow?
thanks very much!

Answer
Sounds like powdery Mildew. This is a disease that if not controlled may cause serious damage. I would sugest you spray the foliage with a fungicide for powdery mildew. Here is a web site that gives information on powdery mildew and control measures including which fungicide to use.
