Leaf gall

Question
My sasanqua camellias are covered with leaf gall. I was told years ago to pick them off and dispose of them.  How do I prevent this problem?

Answer
Pulling the galls off is the recommended control.  However, you probably will not get all of them and the dried up galls fall on the ground and this is where the fungus survives until next spring.  It is too late now, but next spring when the buds are just beginning to swell and the new leaves are very young, you can spray with Maneb Fungicide.  Re-treat in 7 days.  This should prevent the galls from forming.  Keep pulling the galls as you see them and try to get as many as you can.  They do need to be thrown in the trash and not on the ground anywhere near the plant, as the fungal spores can travel in the wind back to the plant.  I hope this helps.  Good Luck.
