Pests on euonymus...

Question
Our euonymus has a problem with scale and I just sprayed it with dormant oil for that but in addition to the white scale the barky part of the limbs are now COVERED with brown dots which I assume is another either form of scale or a new pest.  This is the third year this shrub has had problems and it's so big I don't think I have ever really got all the scale off it in the spring.  I'll keep spraying for the scale with the oil but can you give me some idea of what those brown things are?  They basically cover the whole barky part of the limb and were not there last fall when we started getting cold weather.  HELP!!

Answer
Hi Diane,  You may have rid the plant of scale and do not know it as they will not fall off.  Press your finger nail into it and if it bleeds it is still alive if not it is gone.  You can scrape them off.  I use Neem Oil from Dyna Grow which is pure and safe and best of all does not wash off for most plant problems.  kathy
