Wilting Autumn Blaze Maple

Question
I planted an autumn blaze maple in my front yard almost 3 years ago in the middle of a large flower bed.  I live in Northern Utah which is a fairly arid climate, but we have lots of maples around.  Each year when the leaves come out they seem to droop.  The leaves also never go through a green stage, but are always red.  The tree also hasn't grown much over the past 3 years.  I have quite a bit of clay in my soil and have tried adding soil pep to it each year.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Chad   It sounds to me that the soil ph may be off just a bit.  I would recommend getting a soil testing kit online that includes a Ph meter.  If you have a Harbor Freight near by I think they sell them in the garden section.

You can also get a sample and send it to your local extension office for a complete analysis. They will also test for Nematodes at the same time and it should only cost about 10 to 20 dollars.

This will help you with your fertilizer selections as well.

Sincerely

James
