loquat diseases

Question
We have a 4 year old loquat tree whos leaves have suddenly started turning yellow and then brown and dying. One branch has already totally died and now the others are starting to do the same. Up to this point it has been very healthy and has produced plentiful fruit for the last 3 years at least. There are no makrings or discolorations on the bark or trunk; it seems to only be showing on the leaves. Help! We don't want to lose the whole tree!

Answer
Karen:
This is a hard one! Several possibilities. It would be best to contact your local nursery/greenhouse operation to discuss this w/them. Or you can contact your local county Extension office to arrange for a "house call"--meanwhile review any materials that may have been applied to the plant or soil over the last few weeks. Under these circumstances, it would be best to have someone actually see the tree.  I would be just guessing at this point.

Steve
