Question
I have several Pecan trees in my back yard in Dallas Texas.  One of the trees has bark pealing from the base to near the top from 3" to 8" wide.  I have never seen this and thought it may be a fungus or bug.  Can you give me any advice?

That is a head scratcher for me also. What about a lightning strike? It usually runs down the tree, blowing off the bark usually. Did this appear suddenly or has it been going on for some time? Doesn't sound like a bona fide disease like a fungus or even a bug .
