white mushrooms under blue oak trees

Question
I am having a heavy infestation of white mushrooms under my 2
blue oak trees. Is this a sign of the oaks in stress or dying?
What should I do?

Answer
Mattie:
Difficult to say if they are causing a problem for the tree without determining the mushrooms' identification.  Sometimes these may be growing directly from the roots as a parasite or they could be innocent and growing on buried organic matter like decaying wood or dead roots that have been buried and decomposing for some time.

If you would like to send me a closeup photo of these, I could have a look.  Unfortunately, in either case, there is nothing you can do other than physically remove these if they are unsightly.  Keeping your tree watered and fertilized can be very beneficial and especially prevent any damage to the bark which protects the tree.

Regards
Steve
