Chemical, zinc

Question
Is zinc sulphate and chelated zinc EDTA 12 percent same or is there any diffrence.I want to spray zinc sulphate on my apple orchard but the seller give me chelated zinc by saying both are same.

Answer
There may be some differences between zinc sulfate and chelated zinc EDTA.  However, in many situations chelated zinc is preferred.

When a product is chelated, it is bound to another substance which helps keep it in solution so that it can be more easily absorbed.  Many minerals including zinc have a tendency to bind tightly to compounds in the environment so they are not available for plants to take up.  If you are applying zinc to trees, I would recommend the chelated product over non-chelated since more of the zinc will be available to the plant.
