Chinese Pistachio Tree wilted/brown leaves= dead?

Question

WIlted/Brown Leaves
I have what I believe to be two Chinese Pistachio trees in my front yard.  One of the two put out leaves in early spring along with my other one (and all the rest in the neighborhood).  But now it looks dead.  All the leaves are wilted if not completely brown.  I saw a previous post where it was asked to check the twigs for green/and if anything had been sprayed/dug etc around the tree.

- i check a few twigs and some showed the potential to be slightly green just underneath the skin.  Others were brown all the way through.
- I did spray weed killer around the tree, and since have set grass seed/and some miracle grow around the base of the tree where weeds had taken over the grass in the winter.
- we haven't had to dig around the tree (yet) but I will have to do some sprinkler maintenance in the near future.

Is my tree on its "death bed" or is there something I can do to try and save it?  I believe it's about 10 years old.. so I would hate to have to replace unless absolutely necessary.

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Sharon:
The twig test is quite good, however after checking numerous twigs that turn out brown, it may not mean a bright future ahead. Not sure of the weed killer. Most homeowner products are relatively safe if you avoid getting them on green tissues like leaves.
Consider looking the tree over for any bark damage, especially on the main stem.  If none present, just wait on things for 2-3 weeks.  If tree continues to decline, it may be time to consider a replacement.

Steve
