thanks for your reply. sorry--i meant to write that i live in northern california, ukiah, which is 2 hours north of bay on 101, inland. i think i oversized the holes. they're probably 2 1/2 to 3". i took a couple of photos. i'm thinking maybe this is voles.
AnswerLooks too big for vole. Since you are in northern CA, I think you have mountain beaver.
